Day 1 - Begins at noon. Day one will be held in the field. Classroom instruction will be combined with study in the field. Biology of invasive species A discussion of the biology of both invasive plants and insects. Forestry and invasive species This session will provide a background on the ecology behind both invasive species and their targets, which will be built on during the following days with discussion of remote sensing analysis Ground reference The need for ground reference will be discussed in this session, along with how to plan and carry out ground reference collection. Day 2 Aerial imagery A discussion of the use of aerial imagery for remote sesning applications, including its advantages and disadvantages as compared to satellite imagery. Satellite imagery This session is devoted to the caharacteristics of various satelliet imagery. Inexpensive and easily obtainable imagery is emphasized. Basic remote sensing analysis This session builds on the previous session by working through some basic remote sensing analysis, such as supervised and unsupervised land cover classification. It is a hands-on lab session. Invasive species applications A discussion of basic methods of invasive species management using remote sensing. Techniques discussed will be those that are fairly easy to perform and those that use less exotic imagery. Day 3 - Ends by noon. Other types of imagery This session builds on the imagery session of the previous day by expanding into more advanced and/or expensive types of imagery. Advanced techniques for invasive species management The final session again focuses on invasive species managemt, but focuses on the use of more novel techniques and/or imagery. |
