The procedures below were outlined by Jason Cole for use by Project field crews. They will produce results consistent with those our project was attempting to obtain while locating ground reference. These procedures may not be fully equivalent to those required for other applications.

Leica 530 Series GPS Receivers

 

Rover Field Procedures for Static Observations

 

Defaults Settings

 

  • Configure Set                          CFI
  • Job                                           Create new for each day (Location and Date
  • Coordinate System                   WGS84 Geodetic
  • Antenna                                    AT502 Pole
  • Antenna Mask Angle                15°
  • Observation Rate                      5 seconds         Not illustrated under settings

Under CFI settings

 

Default settings can be changed under 6 configure, in the main menu under CFI Settings.  Edit (F3) to change settings

 

Survey Procedures

 

  1. Setup unit over point
  2. Turn receiver on
    • Give it a chance to find satellites (a minute or two)
  3. Press 5 or scroll down to JOB and enter info
    • Do not need to do if already established
  4. Continue (F1) to return to main menu 
  5. Enter or press the number 1 (Survey) or F1 to continue
  6. F1 to continue if defaults are correct
  7. Enter Point ID
  8. Enter antenna height (meters)
  9. F1 (ocupy)
  10. Collect for 30 minutes
  11. F1 to end collection when completed
  12. F1 again to store if asked
  13. Escape to return to main menu
    • Confirmation if Survey will be terminated, F5 (OK)
  14. Main menu appears turn off  receiver
  15. Break unit down to move to the next point

 

Hot Keys

 

F7        Status\Satellite

F8        Status\Memory/Battery

F9        Manage\Points

F10      Status\Position

                        HDOP and VDOP included

 

To return to the previous screen press F1 to continue or ESC.
